Lobatse, South-East District
Lobatse is a town located approximately 70kms south of Gaborone and 79kms north of Mahikeng, South Africa. The town has a population of ca. 29,000 (2011 population census) and is home to vital institutions such as the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) and the Lobatse High Court. The town is also home to health facilities such as Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital and Athlone Hospital; schools such as the Lobatse Senior Secondary School; recreational facilities such as Lobatse Stadium and BMC Stadium; shopping centres, banking and financial services and other major commercial and industrial concerns. The town has a diverse range of low to high cost residential accommodation, as well as small to large scale agricultural concerns in the surrounding areas. Lobatse is a main transit point for passing trade travelling from South Africa, with two nearby border posts, Pioneer Border (ca. 9km drive from Lobatse) enroute to Zeerust, RSA) and Ramatlabama Border enroute to Mahikeng. Lobatse also benefits from being part of an extensive railway network linking cities, towns and villages in Botswana from as far south as Ramatlabama to as far north as Ramokgewebana.
